Brief: Change direction, looking for materials, build prototypes

Group Partners: Xin, Jae. Lulu, Chun

Tutorial:

After tutorials, our teachers did not suggest us to continue our current wristband idea. The reason why were it's not a way to create a new problem to deal with other problems, that will make more and more problems. Technical is not the solution. The course leader thought the other idea, which uses the package to track and trace the customer's sweat and salivate would be a better choice.

Inspiration:

When I came up with the idea about the package, it's simply because I want to track and trace people in another direction. Not to track from each individual, but to track each object. It does not matter "who" had touched it, just show how many people touched it. Customers will only know about the touch history about the object and nothing else, no privacy will leak.

Observation:

When people are shopping at the supermarket, they will pick stuff and take a look, sometimes they may also talk with their partners at the same time. Hands may sweat, and the salivate may stain on it.

Storyboard:

Speed dating:

  1. Supermarkets may add a transparent layer of the package when they get the product.

  2. People see the color may build trust in it, they can see the 'data'.

  3. When staffs see there are too many colors (saliva & sweat) on the package, they may exchange or clean it.

How to build trust in this design?

For individuals, building trust by transparency, make the invisible data become visible. Blur the privacy during the track and trace, people would not leak any personal data. Moreover, the color will be more accurate and impressive than just showing a number.

For the environment, the package is a medium of showing the current environment. The environment does not need to monitor, the customer will have their own thoughts and build trust throughout the colored package.

Materials:

thermochromic paint

When exposed to heat, the molecular structures will change. It reflects different wavelengths of light when it's warmer.

Prescale film/Pressure

When the film gets pressure on, it will show red color according to the degree, a larger degree the redness will be darker.

hydrochromic paint

Paint changes from opaque to transparent when it gets wet. Typically the paint is applied over an existing image and produces a plain white surface as the paint dries. If the surface is then brushed over with water the hidden image is revealed. As the surface dries again it returns to its opaque state.

Material Testing:

thermochromic paint

the pint color is purple
the paint is originally purple
Put hand on it
Purple will become pink

Prescale film/Pressure

Put the paper on a bag of chips, and then put hand on it
Redness will show on the paper

Design Schemes:

All-in Package

Lace-up
