Brief: Observation, Idea development

Group Partners: Xin, Jae. Lulu, Chun

Tutorials:

Previously, we were focusing on design a system for people to monitor, share the information and data with screens and tracking. However, our tutorials suggest we be an intelligence provider instead of a technical solution provider. This reminds us to focus more on how did each individual behaves in the environment.

Observations:

Each of us went to the supermarket and took videos when we were shopping, put a camera inside the trolley, and record how people behaved in the supermarket.

Later when we review the videoes together, we found out some interesting points.

1. When kids are very young, people have to push the trolley and buggy at the same time. That makes the shopping process become inconvenient. If you keep the buggy and trolley side by side, the kid would not able to keep social distance with strangers.

2. Each people would have their own distance preference. It's hard for them to keep social distance when it's getting crowded.

3. Thinking about track and trace reciprocally, people usually touch and talk in the supermarket. How about we track those objects instead of tracking people?

4. Usually, people may forget what do they want during the shopping process, so they have to go back and try to remember what they forgot. We may track and trace their shopping history.

Storyboard:

Speed dating:

We did speed dating for all of those storyboards. Participants gave lots of suggestions on the lighting trolley.

  1. Some people do not use the trolley, also, it's hard to run the trolley when it's crowded.

  2. The wristband would have a larger range of applications. (elders, adults, kids)

  3. If the wristband could scan the barcode, people can just scan the barcode and pick up their stuff at the cashier. It's quick and reduces contacts between staff and consumers.

  4. It shows respect to people, may improve my trust level with this place.

  5. The idea was great, or it does not have to be a wristband. It could be a sticker or colored logo, could also have the same function. Lights may require a battery.

  6. People may forget the different color's meanings.

Based on those speed dating results, we decided to make a wristband.

How to build trust:

For individuals, they can understand the message from a stranger (the light may apply their attitudes), showing respect, and feel kindness from each other.

For the environment, letting people have a more comfortable shopping environment, improving their trust level in the community.

Function:

1. The wristband may have different colors, showing different attitudes about whether they care about social distance.

2. The wristband may detect when two people are too close to each other. Blinking to remind people to keep a social distance.

3. The wristband may also scan the barcode of the products, and they may achieve contactless shopping.
