Brief: Narrow down, target group
Group Partners: Xin, Jae. Lulu, Chun
Tutorial:
It seems like everything goes from technology to another technology. How do people build trust out of the tech?
Lulu’s example, the paper could build trust between each individual and the environment. How could we explore this case?
The key point for the project is to set up a mechanism for people to build trust which does not rely on technology or government executive power.
Cultural differences between western countries and eastern countries?
Building trust with familiarity? People would be more likely to trust family and friends and familiar environments.
Try to explore and have more ideas, not solutions. Leave something blank.
Think about the range of ideas that could design for. Different parameters.
Synthesize previous research and then focus on one direction. Start to narrow down to a smaller scale.
Revise:
As Lulu’s example, the paper is a medium for people to build trust. Technology is another kind of medium for people to build trust. It could be used in the design, but it does not have to do so.
Try to use technology as a starting point, explore more cases and examples in real life about building trust with the environment or other individuals.
Building trust:
We decide to do some observation around our living environments, and looking for any behaviors/objects/constructs that could build trust for us.
1. During the covid-19 pandemic, when you got the delivery, and found this tip inside. Frankly it may or may not be useful, but it did pacify my anxiety.

2. Contemporary bulletin. Even though people heard the conditions from the news, media, but the reception and supermarket post a bulletin would make people feel like everybody is taking this thing seriously.
3. The guarding system of student accommodation. Require key to enter the lobby and each room. Also, the guardians are working 24/7.
Teammates observations:
Familiar scents could build trust.
Having a private space in a public area could build trust.
Any elements which related to the home country would build trust
City design elements, having more connections with each other would be able to build trust. Meet more frequently in such space. Common room/Common space, attracting people to crowd together.
If people seeing somebody regularly would be able to build familiarity and trust with eye contact.
Childhood furniture and toys may build familiarity.
Building recommended mechanisms in space.
Yelp, a system which use strangers/friends comments to build trust
