Brief: “Design a conversation between a human and a machine.”

Group Partners: Lining Zhang, Jiayao Zhang, Chun Li

Brainstorm:

After the briefing, we decided to come out with a brainstorm about “conversation.”

Brainstrom about "Conversation"

Figured out that the conversation between a human and a machine could only be one direction, which we input order, and the machine does the output for us.

It seems like the “conversation” is not happening.

Inspirations:

Then we were inspired by the documentary film “The Great Hack.”

Due to the massive development of artificial intelligence, and the technologies, the machine had become a strong and powerful tool in people’s daily life. We started to get used to them. However, the more time we spend on the machine, the more privacy we had exploded. People who created those algorithms and technologies use data as a weapon trying to control society.

Based on the content of the documentary, we start to think about whether we can design something to fight against control by the machines.

Examples:

When people are putting hashtags on their Instagram posts, whey will automatically get personalized with those hashtags. Every time they put words on the search interface, the algorithms would make the keywords into their files. That’s why we keep watching the same category and similar content all the time.

Flow Chart of Process

Function:

People can see how the algorithms are calculating their personalities on their devices, and they can always refresh their hashtags, to get a new interface of social media.

The purpose of the conversation is to let users decide what they want to see; the algorithm can also learn how the personality of the user.

Feedback and Reflection:

1. If you can add more about how Facebook changes people's political opinions by using the data analysis. Design some function to get out of control by Facebook since the project was inspired by "The Great Hack."

2. You said that people could change their hashtags by themselves, but how about the duration, how frequent would people change their hashtags?

3. People can see how their profiles looked like, but where is this profile in the device or the browser?

4. Have you ever thought about search engines or just social media? Because nowadays the search engines are providing you the most suitable resources you want.
