Brief: Looking for an interesting topic related to lights

Group Partners: Erick, Sia, Abigail, Chun

Introduction:

When we first get our project brief, we were confused about how to enhance workplaces via lights. It seems like an architecture project, but how could we add something new with UX designer's perspective?

We decided to do general research individually, and pick one to two topic which interested us.

Broad Research:

lights history

According to the Light2015, the natural light was formed 13 billion yrs ago, and around 2 billion yrs ago, there were living organisms appear on the earth. Artificial light was started from our ancestors using a campfire, and then candles and mirrors. 1879, Thomas Edison invented the first incandescent light bulb, in the middle of the 20th century, we have fluorescent light. Around the 1960s, we have LED lights. Compared with the natural lights, artificial lights do not have a long history, but it starts taking natural light's place, however, based on Cantifix. Co, the function and benefits of sunlight cannot be replaced. It provides us with Vitamin D boost, helps our body clock keep time, and improves psychological wellbeing. Also, according to the research done by Mohamed boubekri and his colleagues, workers who experienced more daylight exposure would have higher sleep qualities and better sleep-wake patterns. Moreover, based on the journal written by Sarah Garone, natural lights can reduce the health risk of fluorescent lighting.

Natural lights are required and necessary for us, but people do not take that as essential as they should.

Form at irregularities in the plasma, or charged particles of gas, in the ionosphere, the layer just above the dense lower atmosphere, about 37 to 56 miles (60 to 90 kilometers) above the Earth's surface.

Deep down the sea, the light cannot reach, there are living organisms that can produce light by using bioluminescence. There are many branches of bioluminescence, such as bacterias and jelly.

Volcanoes

When the right conditions combine all at once, huge electric currents can be found in the ash plumes of a volcanic eruption. The discharges create the unique and breathtaking phenomenon of volcanic lightning.

The combination of lava, heat, ash, and clouds may create a huge amount of eruptions and make the cloud have a chemical-physical reaction.

Practical Review:

James Turrell uses natural lights and space to create a combination space.

I.M. Pei (Suzhou Museum, 2006)

A famous landmark from a well-known Chinese American architect, I.M. Pei. The Suzhou Museum, he used geometric patterns and natural lights, design a modern architecture beside a traditional Chinese garden.

Conclusion:

According to our research, there are many works of literature had already shown a lack of natural light. Two of our group both have interests in combining natural lights and artificial light to improve the workspace.
